Reports indicate that Apple is looking to further improve the integration of CarPlay. With the arrival of CarPlay 2.0 will be a significant overhaul of the vehicle system expected. With iOS 17.0, Apple plans to launch its smartphones for to gear these changes, which should result in various iPhone features being increasingly seen on in-car infotainment systems.

In addition, Apple has been developing an AR/XR for some time -Glasses. The compatibility of this device aims to be deeply embedded in the iOS system. The iPhone maker’s first AR/XR glasses are expected to be officially unveiled in spring 2023. iOS 17.0 is expected to bring a variety of modifications, improvements and innovations. As usual, some of these are larger, others less.

• Participation in the beta program will only be possible in the future with a developer account that has been activated for the “Apple Developer” program. This change will already take effect with iOS 16.4.
• The Messages app will probably be completely renewed with iOS 17.0 and could offer additional functions such as AR chat.
• In addition, the Control Center is expected to be fundamentally redesigned with the update to iOS 17.0. Since its launch in 2011, it could finally get a new design.

Furthermore, iOS 17.0 is likely to include other minor changes for iPhone users.

Accessibility in particular on the iPhone should be greatly improved with iOS 17.0, as Apple recently confirmed. As a result, there is a special focus this year on language functionality. Blind users and people with limited vision can also look forward to valuable improvements. Apple plans to release the so-called “Assistive Access” function in iOS 17.0, as the company itself announced. The aim is to “reduce apps and experiences to their essential functions and thus reduce the cognitive load”.

In addition, iOS 17.0 is expected to offer two other important features for better accessibility. These features appear to be particularly aimed at people who cannot speak, have lost their ability to speak over time, or may lose it in the future. With “Live Speech” you can enter texts that the iPhone speaks aloud. There should also be an option to pre-save frequently used phrases. This feature could be useful for face-to-face conversations, but also during phone calls or FaceTime calls.

Particularly impressive is Apple’s plan to be able to mimic the user’s voice in the future. This feature, called Personal Voice, could be especially helpful when a disease like ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), which can affect the ability to speak. In order to train the iPhone, the person concerned has to read out several texts. According to Apple, this process takes about 15 minutes. The smartphone uses machine learning directly on the device, to mimic the person’s voice. However, this feature will initially only be available in English.

Another new feature in the accessibility area in iOS 17.0 is “Point and Speak” introduced in Apple’s Loupe. This feature will also be available for German users. The app gets a new option to improve interaction with physical objects. An example would be a microwave oven with buttons labeled. Visually impaired people can now slide their finger over the buttons while the iPhone speaks the function aloud.

iOS 17.0 is not expected to be released until September 2023, parallel to the release of the iPhone 15 models. Apple has not officially released any information about which iPhone models will be compatible with iOS 17.0. However, Apple is known for providing its smartphones with updates longer than many other manufacturers. Therefore, it is very likely that the following products will support iOS 17.0:

Apple seems to be sticking to its usual schedule this year as well. As in the previous year, the 2022 developer conference took place in June. This was followed by the next big announcement in September, mostly showcasing new features of the Apple Watch and iPhone.

iOS 15 was released on September 20, 2021, and iOS 16 was released on September 12 for all compatible iPhones.

It can be expected that Apple will also launch iOS 17 in mid-September, typically a few days after the Apple keynote and before the latest iPhone models ship.
