Microsoft Office on iPad 7 no longer free
With a screen diagonal of up to 10.1 inches, Microsoft allows the free use of the most commonly used Office applications with Excel, Word and PowerPoint at least in the basic functions for free. Exceptions were only the premium features that made an Office 365 subscription required.
But with the newly introduced iPad 7, Apple has exceeded the magical screen diagonal of 10.2 inches by exactly 0.1 inches (25mm). And so even with this minimum overrun of the set limit, no exception is made by Microsoft regarding the restrictions.

Office needs to be paid on iPad 7
So the new implementation of the requirements of Microsoft for the free use of his Office package is not brand new. Because even with the iPad Pro which had a screen size of 10.5 inches, the users were promoted to paying customers.
However, according to Microsoft, all devices with a maximum screen size of 10.1 inches will continue to be supplied free of charge with the Office programs Word, PowerPoint and Excel for private use.
However, looking at the bottom line, it is perfectly legitimate to ask for something in return for a good product. And since tablet PCs are now increasingly used by attachable keyboards, and compatible mice such as notebooks and desktop PCs, the Microsoft Group just has to draw a line somewhere.
